About
Ray has dedicated his professional life to helping families insure against long term care since 2000. He chose this specialty as a direct result of life experience.
When Ray was a teenager, his beloved grandmother moved from out-of-state to Ray’s home, with the proceeds from the sale of her house, sold after she was widowed. Six years later, grandma got sick, needed extensive care, and so she entered a nursing home. Ray and his parents heard his grandmother’s dismay as the money she had earmarked to pass to kids and grandkids was instead used to pay for her long term care. She was a proud woman, and found it hard to believe that she had run out of money and ended up on Medicaid.
After 9 years in a nursing home, she passed. When years later, Ray learned about long term care insurance, his first though was “I wish we had known about this years ago. The coverage would’ve been there for my family and my grandmother.”
Unfortunately, like most middle-aged Americans, Ray has, since grandma’s passing, witnessed additional uninsured family members struggle with a need for care.
Now, families that plan ahead by purchasing long term care insurance can have the trauma of long term care softened by the availability of ready funds to purchase professional care and even pay for other expenses such as housekeeping and/or home modifications.
In a recent interview, Ray stated: “I am passionate about LTCi protection because I know from experience what the consequences can be to any family and their finances if you are not protected. Unlike many insurance agents that sell a multitude of insurance products, I focus exclusively on LTCi, because I believe that in order to offer my clients the best possible service and recommendations, you need to have a single focus.”
Professional
In addition to obtaining and maintaining professional licenses in a long list of states (shown below), Ray has taken the extra step of studying for and obtaining the CLTC designation. The “Certified in Long-Term Care” (CLTC) program is the long-term care insurance industry’s only independent professional designation. Created in 1999, the course is focused on the field of long-term care planning and provides legal, accounting, insurance and financial service professionals the critical tools necessary to address the subject matter with their clients.
Ray is serious about remaining a student of long term care insurance. He stays connected to industry news, tax incentives, and other legislation that extends benefits to policyholders in many states (called Partnership programs), new products and trends. The area of long term care funding and long term care insurance is one of the fastest-evolving area of insurance. Ray says, “I keep current so my clients are confident they are receiving an informed opinion and the information they need to make an informed decision.”
Philosophy
“The ability to help families in this area of planning is a privilege and responsibility. You will have my best effort analysis and work on you behalf, before you purchase a policy, during the underwriting process, and should you ever have a claim.” – Ray Voelke
